The Club

"Pepper Street" the combination of which is Mick Hare and John Condy. Mick writes, sings and records his own songs having a few CDs to his name while John sings and plays the guitar, harmonica, banjo and now the National Resonator Guitar. Together they are a unique combination best heard in songs like Muddy Waters, which really could be their signature tune.

Ed Betham

Ed & Sue Bentham. Ed is renowned for his collection of extremely humorous songs covering a wide range of subjects from the lady trying to find a replacement for her dead husband, the only qualification being that he must be able to stir his coffee with his thumb!?!, to Margaret's unrepentant nuisance caller who even rings her from the jail after being arrested for the third time and in the USA it is three and out! Sue is the brains of the outfit and is a superb organiser who has been known to occasionally but brilliantly play theBodhran. She is much more famous, however, for her step dancing.

Cockney Eric & Carl Corbett. Eric is a startlingly creative talent who has a collection of wonderfully indvidual material much of it written by himself. When he lived in France one of the people who inspired him was Jacques Brel whose work he sometimes performs and even translates for his own use. Carl is also a talented singer songwriter with a large repertoire of songs which include many of his hero Jez Lowe and a considerable number of his own creation which he has also recorded on CD.

Richard started singing at 'The Folk Tradition' at the the Old Duke in Bristol in the 60s. London clubs Dingles and the King's Head in Islington (before it became a theatre) furthered his interest. Over the years he has also sung in the occasional musical (an awesome Alfred P Doolittle!) and as the bass line in a small choir. His amateur theatre activities turned pro after he went to Drama School at the age of 55, but not before he and Stella met (her Margaret More to his Henry VIII at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse led to their marriage in a few months.) Although she doesn't sing in public, Stella brings her own folk heritage having worked with Peter Pilbeam on the BBC's folk coverage (she is also a textile artist making felt and jewellery.) They were delighted when the Sale Folk Club started up and have loved it since their first visit.
